Every Hong Kong company—yes, even yours—needs to complete an annual audit. It’s not just a formality; it’s a legal requirement designed to ensure your financials are accurate, transparent, and compliant with local standards.
Meeting statutory deadlines is crucial for compliance and avoiding penalties. The filing due date for your Profits Tax Return depends on your company’s financial year-end and whether a tax representative has applied under the IRD’s Block Extension Scheme.
The table below shows the IRD’s Block Extension dates for the 2025/26 year of assessment. These dates apply to represented cases. In some cases, a further electronic-filing extension is available.
| Accounting date (year-end) | Code | Paper filing deadline | Electronic filing deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 April – 30 November | N | 4 May 2026 (no further block extension) | 4 June 2026 |
| 1 – 31 December | D | 31 August 2026 | 2 October 2026 |
| 1 January – 31 March | M | 16 November 2026 | 16 December 2026 |
| 1 January – 31 March, current-year loss | M (loss) | 1 February 2027 | 1 February 2027 |
These are the IRD dates for year of assessment 2025/26. Deadlines change each year. Check the current Block Extension circular before filing.
A further extension to 1 February 2027 is available only for M-code companies (year-end between 1 January and 31 March) that incurred a current-year tax loss for 2025/26.
These dates assume a tax representative has applied under the Block Extension Scheme. If no tax representative is appointed, the deadline is normally one month from the issue date shown on the return.
A further extension beyond the dates above is granted only in exceptional cases.
